It is perfectly possible to choose a healthy, light meal even in a restaurant. Preferably, choose only a main course. If the main course comes with sauce, it is wise to have it served separately and to consume it in moderation. Meat, fish, game, or poultry is best grilled, poached, or stewed. The type of meat or fish should preferably be lean. Additionally, minimize fried potatoes, fries, (white) sauces, fatty salads, and other side dishes. Take as much as possible vegetables.
At the pizzeria, it helps if the amount of cheese and/or salami is limited. These often contain more calories than the entire pizza.
Would you like a starter after all?
If you do want a starter, the best options are a clear broth, a salad with yogurt dressing, or carpaccio. Baguette with herb butter, shrimp cocktails, and thick soups are examples of less suitable choices.
Don't make a habit of dessert
It is a good idea not to make dessert a habit. If you do have dessert, choose fresh fruit, sorbet without whipped cream, or a cup of coffee or tea. With Irish coffee as an exception. This coffee variant contains 340 calories per glass!
