Want to lose weight? Eat like you're in a Michelin-starred restaurant.
Many people think that losing weight is about eating less, being strict with yourself, or endlessly counting calories.
But sustainable weight loss often lies in something much simple:
Eating more consciously.
Because yes, to lose weight, you will eventually have to consume less energy than you expend.
However, the biggest challenge usually doesn't lie in knowing what to do.
But in the persevere in the long term.
And that is exactly where things often go wrong.
We eat less and less consciously
Sound familiar?
During the meal:
✔ you scroll on your phone
✔ watch television
✔ do you work on a laptop
✔ or do you eat a quick snack in the car
And before you know it, your plate is empty…
…without truly experiencing what you have eaten.
As a result, your brain picks up less well:
✔ that you eat
✔ how much you eat
✔ and when you actually become full
As a result:
✖ eat faster
✖ eating less mindfully
✖ and often eat more than your body needs
Mindful eating often automatically equals eating less
Eating slower and more mindfully can help with:
✔ better satiety
✔ less craving for snacks
✔ more control over eating behavior
✔ a lower total calorie intake
Why?
Your body needs time to transmit signals of satiety to your brain.
Do you eat too fast?
Then you often walk over it unnoticed.
Eat as if you were in an expensive restaurant
A simple way to eat more consciously:
Pretend that every meal is served in a luxury Michelin-starred restaurant.
Do not eat mindlessly.
But truly experience what you eat.
Use the TASTE method:
T — Temperature
Is it warm, cold, crisp, or creamy?
A — Aroma
Which scents do you perceive before you take the first bite?
S — Taste
Do you taste sweet, salty, bitter, sour, or umami?
T — Texture
Is it crispy, soft, crunchy, or creamy?
E — Emotion
What does this bite do to you? Does it bring satisfaction, peace, or restlessness?
By eating this way:
✔ you automatically slow down your pace
✔ you enjoy more
✔ and you notice sooner when you've had enough
And that can make a bigger difference than many people think.
Assignment for today
Choose one meal today where you:
✔ eats without phone or television
✔ takes at least 15 minutes
✔ and consciously applies the TASTE method during the first three bites
Then ask yourself these questions:
Did you eat slower?
Did you enjoy it more?
Did you feel less of a need for extra food?
