Workshop Recap: Squats & Hinges – Improve your lower body technique and results!
As personal trainers, we are always looking for ways to better help our members, achieve their goals, and take their performance to a higher level. Recently, several trainers from the RWIJK GYM team participated in the Squats & Hinges Workshop, organized by Bell-Coaching at LIJFSTIJL Centrum Hoofddorp, and it was a gamechanger!
Why this workshop was important
This workshop focused on the biomechanics of the lower body, with an emphasis on tailoring movements to the client's individual anatomy. This ensures both more effective training and a reduced risk of injury, regardless of the client's level. Whether you are working with someone who struggles with back pain daily, an athlete looking to improve their deadlift PR, or a beginner having trouble reaching full depth in the squat, the knowledge we gained in this workshop will enable us to achieve even better results!
The workshop was not a long theoretical lecture, but an active learning experience. It was a practical, hands-on experience where we not only learned a lot, but were also able to apply it immediately – both on ourselves and on our members.
What we learned
The workshop focused on various important aspects of lower body training, and it provided us with concrete tools and techniques that we can immediately apply in our work with clients:
- Screening of lower body mobility
We learned how to effectively screen our clients' mobility to determine where the weak points lie and which movements need to be improved. - Improving mobility
We were provided with a regression/progression model, which means that we can create a tailor-made plan for each client to improve mobility and address any limitations. - Unilateral loading of the leg
Maximizing the results of split squats, lunges, and hinges was on the program. Training one leg at a time can help correct muscle imbalances and improve overall strength and stability. - Muscle growth in the buttocks and thighs
The workshop offered in-depth insights into tailoring leg exercises to maximize muscle growth. We received practical tips for optimizing exercises such as squats and lunges for better glute and thigh development. - Full depth squat
We learned how to help our clients achieve full depth in their squat, regardless of their level. This is not only important for strength, but also for improving mobility and flexibility. - Training the glutes for muscle growth
The final module was entirely focused on training the glutes. From squats to deadlifts, we received specific tips and tricks to optimally train the glutes and stimulate muscle growth.
A valuable experience
All in all, this workshop was not only a great way to deepen our knowledge of lower body biomechanics, but also an opportunity to gain direct practical experience. It was clear that the insights and techniques we acquired will help us become even better trainers, with tools we can implement immediately in our training sessions.
The active learning experience was exactly what we needed not only to understand the theory, but also to feel how these principles work in practice. This is truly the best way to learn new techniques!
Conclusion
These Squats & Hinges The workshop was a valuable investment in our own development as personal trainers. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced trainer, the principles we learned can help you guide your clients better and achieve better results. We can't wait to apply this new knowledge and help our members achieve their lifestyle and fitness goals!
If you get the chance to attend a similar workshop, we highly recommend it. It is not only educational, but also incredibly inspiring and motivating. Good luck with your training and see you next time!
