Standing strong: investing in fitness is investing in independence

A fall sometimes seems like an unfortunate moment. But how your body handles such a moment is largely determined by your physical condition.

Last month, attention was once again focused on fall prevention among people over 65. And there is every reason for this. In 2025, an estimated 124,000 people over 65 ended up in the emergency room after a fall. In the case of 78%, serious injury was involved. Approximately one in three people over the age of 65 fall annually. This does not mean that every fall is preventable. However, we can work on factors that influence the risk.

Move stronger, more stable, and more confidently

As we age, muscle strength, balance, mobility, and fitness may decline. However, this is not a given. Targeted exercise and training can improve these physical abilities. Research into fall prevention shows that programs that include, among other things balance, functional movements and muscle strength be trained, can reduce the risk of falling.

Think, for example, of strengthening your legs, getting up from a chair more easily, walking more steadily, being able to react better when you lose your balance, and having enough strength to perform daily activities with confidence.

Therefore, staying fit is not just a matter of physical condition or appearance. It is also about being able to continue living independently, actively, and with confidence for as long as possible.
